We Are Disappointed

The CUPE 5430 executive was saddened to hear about Eden Care Communities’ decision to cease all operations of Regina Lutheran Home, resulting in a full closure of the facility and displacement of residents by April 11, 2024.

We are disappointed to hear that the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has no intention of taking over operations of Regina Lutheran Home. This will have a huge impact on residents, families, and our members who are affected by this closure.

As this process continues, our primary goal will be to stand up for our members, their jobs, and their rights under the collective agreement regarding layoff procedures.

On that front, representatives from CUPE 5430, Linda Renkas, Rhonda Osipoff, and Janell Hubbard, met with management at Eden Care Communities and the SHA on October 4 to discuss the closure of Regina Lutheran Home.

Concerned About the Lack of Information

Your union is gravely concerned about the lack of information given to families, residents, and staff. They provided no information about when residents will be moved or to which facilities they will be moved.

We were able to secure a commitment from Eden Care Communities to hold two town halls for all staff to receive information and to have their questions answered. We are working to confirm the date of this right away.

In the meantime, we will continue to speak out in the media, calling for the SHA to take over the operation of Regina Lutheran Home and to save the 62 public long-term care spaces. CUPE 5430 remains committed to supporting all our members affected by the sudden closure.
